About Us
A Bit About Us.
In 1968, a group of concerned truckers met to discuss and move towards
resolving common problems. With this goal in mind, the Truckers Association
of Nova
Scotia was formed. The primary function of the Association
is to promote all matters aiding the development and improvement of
the trucking industry and the allied trades in Nova Scotia, including
social, recreational, benevolent, educational and charitable activities.
In addition, the Truckers Association of Nova Scotia makes presentations
to government and other regulatory bodies in relation to the economic
welfare of the trucking industry and is the main proponent in gaining
access to the provincial haul rates and beneficial changes to the contract
specifications used by the contractors. Regular meetings are held with
the elected Board of Directors, consisting of the president from each
of the 21 county associations and the Executive Committee. Membership
in the association is open to N.S. Owner-operators and carriers large
and small.
What we do...
To keep informed in the trucking field and having many issues of
mutual concern, the Truckers Association of Nova Scotia became
an affiliate member of the Atlantic Provinces Trucking Association,
which in turn is an affiliate of the Canadian Trucking Alliance.
The Truckers Association of Nova Scotia has supported a board member
on the Transportation Sector of Voluntary Planning since 1967.
This Committee provides the provincial government with non-government
advice on transportation policy and program issues with the objective
of promoting the development of high quality transportation services
in Nova Scotia. We work closely with the Trucking Human Resource
Sector Council, which is dedicated to helping industry in Nova
Scotia, by assisting with training from Federal Government funds
The Truckers Association of Nova Scotia is proactive in dealing
with safety issues and supporting Associations. We have worked
closely with the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association and
current sit on the Board of Directors of the Nova Scotia Trucking
Safety Association. Both of these organizations are instrumental
in providing Occupational Health and Safety programs, which enable
the membership the opportunity to work or bid on Governmental programs.
It is the goal of the association to have our members trained for
an accident free environment.
What do we offer...
County Associations dispatch trucks for the Department of Transportation
and Public works contractors and other provincial government departments
involved in the hauling of applicable materials. These dedicated
dispatchers provide expanded service by also dispatching after
regular business hours and keeping records that are open for examination
by the county membership. We have Associate Members who have formed
a very strong and dedicated Associated Trades Council, consisting
of suppliers and sponsors of the trucking industry. These Associate
Members contribute to the success of the Truckers Association of
Nova Scotia at both provincial and county levels. It is through
them that we are able to enjoy some exclusive discounts. The truly
appreciate the time and effort our Associate members put forward
on behalf.
Interested and want to join???
Since no one individual can solve all our problems alone, isn't it
obvious that you should join others to protect your business investment?
Only your time, support and participation will make it happen.
The larger the membership, the stronger the Association. To become
an active member, the window of opportunity is January and February
only. Please contact the Truckers Association of Nova Scotia's
office for additional information if necessary.
